A view from Serenity Acres down the road to the outside world.

Seven learning components comprise the process for reaching the desired, deep level of relationship with God and becoming a committed disciple of Jesus Christ. Each component contains three levels or phases of exploration and experience. By design, participants move through each of the seven components first as Seekers, then begin again as Pilgrims, and finally make their way through a third time as Disciples. In this manner, each participant will, as a Seeker, experience the breadth of a relationship with God and have the opportunity to express this relationship in service to others. Then as Pilgrims, the participants will gather again to deepen and strengthen their understanding, allowing this to overflow in service to their churches and communities. Finally as Disciples, participants will become engaged to help teach the newest cohort of Seekers and to continue learning at ever deeper levels. Thus Emmaus Road Discipleship School continually will develop Seekers, Pilgrims, and Disciples. Each level will take approximately one year to complete. Participants will meet as a group or cohort, have retreat experiences, plan their own service projects, and engage in individual learning through reading and online participation in dialogue. Current master teachers, servants of Christ, theologians, and God-ordained leaders will provide leadership and teaching.

  • Seekers: During the first year of participation in Emmaus Road Discipleship School, participants will be encouraged to seek the will of God for their lives.
  • Pilgrims: During the second year, participants will be invited to explore deeper expressions of a spiritual life.
  • Disciples: During the third year, participants will be invited to discover how God is calling them to serve in His kingdom.

Covenantal Groups

Participants will experience what it means to be in covenant with others and how God uses those deep relationships to lead and guide. Members of each cohort will have opportunities to share how God might be leading them individually, to participate in planning a service project or projects, and to travel together on a pilgrimage. All participants will have the opportunity to choose to work together on a service project after their first year and will go on a pilgrimage together after their second year.
